School is due to be out for the summer and that black cloud has come over Cumbria promising a few wet days over the long holidays – so what can you do with the kids? The answer is simple, a visit to Rheged and their new interactive Lego® exhibition.
We were fortunate enough to visit the Brick Science: Rheged’s Lego® Lab the night before it opened to the public and what great fun my friend’s boys had.
In the amazing exhibition space Brick Science covers 6 science themes: Space, Sound, Forces, Electricity, Biology, and Engineering – and there are lots of hands-on things to do – there are no ‘Don’t touch’ signs here!

The opportunity to discover how wind power works is great fun, as is the musical section where you can use your power of voice to write on walls and much more.
Our three and five-year-olds were fascinated by the exhibits and it was wonderful to watch the concentration on their faces as they played with the Lego® bricks. It was brilliant to see this exhibition from a child’s perspective.
And for older children, there are workshops on creating animation with Lego® and iPads, and much more over the summer holidays. And don’t forget the new Lego Movie will be showing on the giant Rheged cinema screen.
