Bakery to host a sourdough masterclass in aid of Waste Into Wellbeing, Kendal

Lovingly Artisan baker Aidan Monks

Multi-award-winning expert bakers, Aidan Monks, and Catherine Connor of Lovingly Artisan, Plumgarths’s near Kendal, whose reputation for creating handcrafted sourdough bread with unquestioned provenance, taste, and heritage are pleased to be supporting Waste Into Wellbeing, Kendal, by helping raise funds to support the charity which incorporates Kendal People’s Café & Kendal Community Larder.

Keen to do something for this amazing local social food project in their efforts to reduce the amount of waste and surplus food generated by the food system (wholesalers, hospitality and retailers) in Kendal, the team at Lovingly Artisan will be hosting a sourdough bread-making workshop on 20th May from 6.00pm until 7.00pm, at The Eddington Centre, 106a Highgate, Kendal.

All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to help this volunteer initiative do even more as they deliver several key initiatives across Kendal.

Kendal People’s Café is a vibrant and social, pay-as-you-can community café, where surplus food collected from local businesses is prepared and served by our lovely team of volunteers.

Community Kitchen is a low-carbon, commercial kitchen, used to run a range of community cooking activities, designed to bring young people and vulnerable people together to share skills, knowledge and good food.

Community Larder is part of Hubbub’s national Community Fridge Network, where volunteers collect, sort and store surplus food from local retailers ready to share with members of the community.

The Lovingly Artisan Sourdough Masterclass class is perfect for bread makers and foodies of all ages and levels of ability. During this session, Aidan will share why being a true artisan baker matters.

On the night Aidan will demystify the difference between sourdough and factory-baked bread, explore the importance of ingredients, organic flour, and why blending seeds and grains should be an essential part of everyone’s diet.

Tickets are priced at £10.00 each. The workshop starts at 6.00pm prompt and runs for 45 minutes, followed by a 15-minute Q&A session so budding bakers can get the technical lowdown they need. The event will take place at The Eddington Centre, 106a Highgate, Kendal. To book your spot, visit: https://www.trybooking.com/uk/EMGC

Catherine Connor, co-owner of Lovingly Artisan, said: ‘’Waste Into Wellbeing is an amazing local volunteer-led charity, which we as a bakery have actively supported in the last couple of years. Sadly, many within our communities are unable to readily access quality fresh food, and the reasons for that are huge and varied. But whatever the reason is, Waste To Wellbeing is there to try and help, which is why we’re keen to support the incredible Kendal-based charity as much as possible and support the work they do week in and week out across the whole community.’’
