Shed 1 Gin in the market town of Ulverston on the edge of the Lake District is expanding its range of award-winning spirits with the launch of a brand new gin.
Inspired in part by the light-hearted festival atmosphere of Ulverston, Chuckleberry Gin is a striking deep pink in appearance, and is best enjoyed mixed with tonic over ice for a crisp, tart, sweet drink,
The chuckleberry – a hybrid of a redcurrant, gooseberry, and jostaberry (which itself is a hybrid of a gooseberry and blackcurrant), has a unique, complex taste, which is complemented by subtle herby hints of meadowsweet and hyssop botanicals.
This is the seventh gin to be created by Shed 1 from their micro distillery within a former old calf shed in the market town of Ulverston. Owners and distillers, Andy and Zoe Arnold-Bennett couldn’t resist using chuckleberries, not only because of their unique flavour profile, but also because of the naturally vibrant colour of the finished spirit.
Zoe said: “It’s a fun drink, which for us captures the feel of Ulverston. It teases the drinker as what you see isn’t necessarily what you get…You’ve got to try it for yourself and see.
“Chuckleberry Gin is a little different to our usual classically distilled, contemporary gins and we’ve deliberately kept the accompanying botanicals to a minimum to capture the unique tart sweetness of the berries. It’s our first bathtub gin and we can see it being a great summer party alternative to Pimms.
