Fresh from its Michelin Star triumph, not only has Cumbria’s Askham Hall been included in the Good Hotel Guide 2020, but it has been handed a special ‘Editor’s Choice’ Award for its quality as a wedding venue.
The publication has been renowned as one of the UK’s top independent hotel guides for more than 40 years and features hotels, inns and B&BS nationwide. The Editor’s Choice Awards recognise a handful of exceptional venues included in the Good Hotel Guide, with Askham Hall being highlighted in the wedding category for 2020.
The Editor’s Choice award winners have been selected through a combination of independent inspections and reader reports, which have been carefully scrutinised by the Good Hotel Guide’s editorial team. A presentation to mark the achievement took place as part of the Independent Hotel Show at London’s Olympia on Tuesday 15 October.

Dating back to the late 1200s, the former family home of the Earls of Lonsdale has grown steadily as a bridal venue; in 2013 Askham Hall hosted just three weddings, this year that figure is around 65 and future bookings for 2020 are already up another 10%. That ranges from more intimate ceremonies in the Old Chapel or the open-air wedding pavilion, to large-scale celebrations in Askham’s Medieval Hall or its rustic Party Barn.
