School holidays are a time for children to have a rest, however for many young people across Cumbria, the daily routine of caring for a parent or sibling continues.
To give young, unpaid Carers a break, carer support organisations in Cumbria are rpvoiding a range of special activities for this half-term break – starting on Monday 20 February.
In furmed there is swimming at Dalton Leisure centre, fun multiport sessions at Hindpool Community Centre and horse riding session at Seaview Riding school in Barrow. There is also an activity day at Kepplewray and a visit to Laser Quest in Barrow.
Craig Backhouse, Furness Carers CEO said: “Every day of the half term we have an activity session for our Young Carers. This part of our work is funded through donations and a grant from the Sir John Fisher Foundation.
“Being a young person is challenging enough, and having a caring responsibility adds to those challenges. Having these activities, where they can be with other young people facing similar challenges, provides them with a break. It is an opportunity to be with friends, have fun and enjoy being a young person.”
As well as organising activities for Young carers, Unpaid Carer organisations in Cumbria also provide a range of support services for the young people and their parents.
