Accountants expand South Cumbrian team with apprentices

A leading accountancy firm has developed its team in South Cumbria with the appointment of two apprentices.

Saint & Co Chartered Accountants, which has offices across the county, has welcomed Heather Spencer-Jones and Ben Cakebread to its Ambleside office.

Darren Little, a partner at Saint & Co, said: “It’s great to have Heather and Ben join the team here in Ambleside and they have already shown great potential to go far in their careers.

“They are both hard working and eager to learn more, and we’re looking forward to helping them develop their skills to ensure a successful pathway in accountancy.”

Ben, 23, is originally from Essex but relocated to the Lake District with his partner following his studies at Lancaster University where he gained a degree in Business Management and Finance.

He is combining his work at Saint & Co with studying for his ACA qualification at Kaplan, in Newcastle.

Ben said: “I love the job itself and, combined with my studies which are getting progressively harder, I’m enjoying being challenged every day. The team at Saint & Co is very supportive and it’s great to have that encouragement as we learn new things.”

Heather, 27, also stayed in Cumbria after studying at Lancaster University, gaining a degree in Natural Sciences.

Originally from Sandhurst, she previously worked in pensions in Manchester but was interested in a career change after seeing a vacancy for an apprentice accountant at Saint & Co. She is now studying towards her ACA and CTA qualifications, combining her work at the firm with her studies at Kaplan, Manchester.

She said: “I like the variety of at Saint & Co whether it’s working with tax, accounts or auditing. It’s true that no two days are ever the same as you don’t know what might come in.”

Saint & Co has offices across Cumbria in Ambleside, Carlisle, Cockermouth, Whitehaven, Millom, Penrith and Wigton, as well as three offices in Dumfries & Galloway, in Scotland.
