DEBBIE & Richard Greaves, owners of A Corner of Eden’s luxury holiday cottages, have won a national award at the recent iNews Staycation Awards. The awards were presented in London by Matt Baker, host of The One Show and Countryfile, who praised A Corner of Eden along with other finalists for promoting the holiday and tourism business in the UK.
A Corner of Eden, just outside Ravenstonedale, won ‘Dog-friendly Accommodation of the Year Award’, above many other excellent entries, for welcoming and providing outstanding accommodation for guests who want to bring their canine friends away on holiday with them.
The awards ceremony took place at the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel in London on Thursday 21st November. There were 17 different categories in total, with nearly 200 finalists attending the glitzy black-tie event. A Corner of Eden were also shortlisted for ‘Self-catering Accommodation of the Year Award’.In creating these new awards i-News said “Our objective was to celebrate our incredible, thriving tourism industry and to shine a light on the nation’s hidden gems. Indeed, as the winners and finalists demonstrate, we have a wealth of wonderful holiday opportunities on our doorstep”. They put together a panel of nine judges from organisations including the National Trust, Ramblers, Responsible Travel and event partners Holidaycottages.co.uk who had a lively debate deliberating the nominations to decide the winners. A Corner of Eden began in 2005 when Debbie and Richard bought a derelict farm in Ravenstonedale near Kirkby Stephen. Over the last 14 years they have lovingly converted the old Georgian Farmhouse that sleeps 8, transformed a redundant barn into the eco-chic Angel Barn for 6 and also created the rustic Shepherd’s Cottage which provides a cosy romantic retreat for two. The 3 cottages are a dog lovers heaven, beautifully decorated inside with secure walled gardens and doggie welcome hampers, an abundance of walks from the door and three dog friendly pubs nearby.

“The real star of the show is Ned, our fabulous border terrier, who appears in our social media encouraging other dogs to come and stay, and always has a waggy tail when woofers come to visit.”
Other Cumbrian businesses to reap rewards were nearby Brownber Hall who won Hotel of the Year and Low Sizergh Barn who celebrated winning the Taste Award.
