THE wonderful thing about Woolfest, the celebration of natural fibres held annually in Cockermouth is the holistic approach to wool the even takes.
Yes, there are the very best artisans and stockists of products for every and any wool craft. However, there are also animals who produce these amazing textiles.
Seeing the lamas, sheep and rabbits whose coats create the threads on sale on the stall next to them really gives you an understanding of the work which goes into creating these beautiful materials.
You can talk to the farmers, who have diversified and added value to their fleeces. You can find out everything about the process and have a real appreciation of the work these artisans put into making the raw materials we use for our projects.
Though you can’t get up close to the animals this year, there is always Wollfest2021 to look forward to, and you can find out much more about the stallholders who usually fill the whole of Mitchell’s Auction Mart each year, via Woolfest2020 online.
