Cumbria Tourism has launched a county-wide search for new Non-Executive Directors to help shape the future of Cumbria’s £4.65billion tourism industry.
As a government accredited Local Visitor Economy Partnership (LVEP), Cumbria Tourism is the official voice of the tourism industry in the county – representing around 4,500 member businesses and working alongside members and partners to support a successful visitor economy which drives economic growth while delivering benefits for our local communities and environment.
Applications are now open for a total of five vacancies for Non-Executive Directors to join Cumbria Tourism’s Board. The successful applicants will be industry professionals with the specialist industry expertise and experience needed to provide strategic direction, support Cumbria Tourism members and help drive forward the delivery of Cumbria’s collective ‘Destination Management Plan’.
The organisation is particularly looking for expertise in finance, professional services/supply chain, digital marketing, and sustainability, accessibility and inclusivity. It is also keen to receive interest from those representing the next generation of tourism talent.
Overall, the private sector board will reflect the county’s diversity, geography, sectoral spread and membership focus.
President of Cumbria Tourism, Jim Walker, says, “Cumbria Tourism is a nationally respected voice for Cumbria and its £4.65billion visitor economy and we need experienced, commercially adept individuals to join us as we champion the county as a world-class visitor destination.
“The organisation is in a strong position and its rolling programme of Non-Executive Director appointments aims to keep Cumbria Tourism agile and innovative in a fast-changing world.
“Each appointee must demonstrate passion and enthusiasm for improving all aspects of Cumbria’s visitor economy – and in every corner of the county. There will also be a clear focus on private sector experience, to best reflect Cumbria Tourism’s commercial aims and ambitions as we forge ahead as a leading visitor destination.”
Each of Cumbria Tourism’s newly selected Non-Executive Director will hold office for a term of four years; they will then retire and be eligible for re-election for a maximum of three terms.
The closing date for applications is 9am on Wednesday 30 April, with interviews taking place on 12 May. Successful new Board members will take up their roles at Cumbria Tourism’s Annual General Meeting on 12 June 2025.
