Bendles Solicitors LLP have awarded the Charles Attenborough Award to University of Cumbria Law student Liam Mulholland.
The Charles Attenborough Award is awarded to the student who has attained academic merit and demonstrated a contribution to the local community.
Stuart Irving, Partner at Bendles Solicitors said: “The Charles Attenborough Award is awarded to the student who demonstrated academic merit as well as a contribution to their community.Charles was hugely respected solicitor and friend to many clients and other professionals in the local community.
“I am delighted to award the prize to Liam. He has demonstrated a talent in Law as well as demonstrating his contribution to the local community and organisations in Carlisle, including volunteering in the Cumbria Law Centre. The Charles Attenborough Award had a number of fantastic entries and I look forward to working with the University and its students next year to continue Charles’ legacy in legal services in Cumbria.”
Lam said: “I feel honoured and privileged to have been awarded the Charles Attenborough Award by Bendles Solicitors, I know this decision would not have been an easy one to make but I am thrilled to be this year’s winner.
“I believe the connections that the University of Cumbria has built with local businesses have given me opportunities as a student which no other university could provide. This is especially apparent within the Law School, where opportunities such as the mentoring scheme, vacation placements and guest lecturing have enabled me to interact directly with local law firms, who are also potentially my future employers.
Bendles have been instrumental as a firm in offering these opportunities to myself and my peers, enhancing and supporting our degree experience greatly. Being able to make yourself known to a business is the first step but it can also be the hardest one to make, I genuinely feel that the University of Cumbria has helped me to achieve this.
“While I may not have known Charles, this award demonstrates the impact he has had on all the staff at Bendles and the legacy they wish create in his name. Having lived in Cumbria all my life, I understand the vital importance of community; now more than ever we need to ensure that we each look out for one another, and especially those who need it the most. I hope this award continues to inspire future law students as it has done with me.”
