Legal professional Lorna scales heights to raise funds for North West Blood Bikes charity

A legal professional from Kendal has completed a marathon solo hike in the Scottish Highlands to raise funds for the North West Blood Bikes Lancashire and Lakes charity.

Lorna Hodgkinson, from law firm Harrison Drury, walked the West Highland and Great Glen Ways back-to-back covering 191 miles in the process.

The gruelling trek was completed over an 11-day period and raised an impressive £1,845.

The proceeds will support the vital work of North West Blood Bikes Lancashire and Lakes charity in transporting urgent and emergency supplies 24 hours a day, saving thousands of lives every year.

Lorna said: “I love a challenge and this charity is a cause very close to my heart. One of the riders who tragically died in an accident last year was a member of my scuba diving club, so I wanted to do something in his memory.

“I set off on Easter Saturday, the weather was perfect and I was full of energy for the walk ahead. However, it was tough. I covered 27 miles on the longest day and in total I climbed over 19,000 feet which is two thirds of Everest’s overall height.

“The hardest part was walking on my own, however my husband provided crucial back-up at designated points along the way, with cups of tea and moral support.”

Lorna, executive administrator, added: “The backing from friends and colleagues has been fantastic with lots of encouragement via my daily blog posts. I also received donations from people I met during the walk – the generosity has been amazing.”

More fundraising activities by Harrison Drury are in the pipeline and if you would like to donate visit Lorna’s fundraising page.
