RATHBONE Investment Management in Kendal has appointed Charles Lawson as a client service executive.

Charles will be supporting regional director, Richard Dawson, and will manage client administrations. His responsibilities will include managing account openings, asset transferals, maintaining client support systems, and data.

Charles grew up in Burton-in-Kendal and was educated at a school in Kirkby Lonsdale. He also holds a BSc in Mathematics from Northumbria University, where he took a particular interest in finance and statistics.

At the other end of the spectrum, the Kendal office’s longest serving member of staff, David White, will celebrate his 20 year anniversary next year. Rathbones Kendal are extremely passionate about maintaining and developing the careers of its staff and champion its pool of local talent.

Richard Dawson, regional director at Rathbone Investment Management: “We have been looking after clients in Lancashire and Cumbria for many years and hiring new talent, like Charles, will help us to provide continuity to our clients’ needs for many years to come. In addition, as we grow as an office hiring local talent will continue to be a priority. Indeed, in just the last few months we’ve noticed a shift in demand as individuals realise they can utilise the expertise of investment professionals closer to home rather than in London.

“Rathbones’ culture is embedded in long term planning whether through staff development or the development of our systems and investment processes. We have a long record of working with schools in our area and supporting young talent, giving them opportunities, training, and mentoring in both a financial and professional capacity.

“Charles will be a great addition to the team, and we look forward to supporting his career progression in the coming years.”

Charles Lawson, client service executive at Rathbone Investment Management in Kendal: “Finding Rathbones right on my doorstep, a firm that has a long heritage in the area, certainly strengthened my interest in the business. It helped me come to the realisation that you no longer need to be based in the city to be an effective investment company and that our varied client base really values having us available nearby.

“Though it’s never ideal settling into a career in the midst of a pandemic, Rathbones’ focus on supporting employee wellbeing and the ease in which we transitioned to working from home has been truly impressive. I am looking forward to working with the team, the learning opportunities ahead, and to developing my career.”
