One Little Bird’s Peaky Blinders Charity Ball raises over £2000 for charity

A GLITTERING 1920s-themed charity ball organised by communications agency One Little Bird and held at The Halston on 1 November has raised over £2000 for Action on Pre-eclampsia — a charity raising awareness of a condition affecting around 6% of pregnant women in the UK.

The funds were raised through a ‘silent auction’ with an incredible array of prizes donated by a host of iconic hotels, personal trainers, caterers, fashion brands, visitor attractions, and other businesses, sold to the highest bidder during a riotous evening befitting the Peaky Blinders theme, with ‘20s-themed live music and dancing.

Just a few of the prizes donated and auctioned included: a one-night stay at Brimstone Hotel, a one-night stay at The Samling with breakfast and dinner at its exceptional restaurant, and a three-night stay at Tottergill Farm for two at Oak Cottage and a two-night stay at The Barn at Colby. Some other prizes included trips to Lowther Castle and Muncaster Castle, personalised luxury pyjamas from Look & Cover, training sessions from Pilates with Balance and Barrie Bark Personal Training, and even a life-sized cut-out of Thomas Shelby created by Ast.

The ball forms part of One Little Bird Founder and Director Nici Hewitson’s year-long fundraising drive for Action on Pre-eclampsia, which will culminate with Nici running the London Marathon in 2020. The issue is close to Nici’s heart after she suffered severe pre-eclampsia while pregnant with her first child.

Action on Pre-eclampsia CEO Marcus Green said: “Pre-eclampsia is a devastating condition that kills over 76,000 pregnant women worldwide and there is no cure. We are thrilled that the Peaky Blinders Ball exceeded all expectations and raised a great sum of money, congratulations to all involved. This money will help us to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms that pregnant women need to look for. We receive no government funding and this money will be hugely helpful.”
