IT is hard to believe that the school half term is almost upon us as we embark on October – however Tullie House in Carlisle is already well ahead with their planning for some spooky, Halloween fun for their young visitors this month.
The Museum and Art Gallery are hosting a range of Halloween themed activities to entertain families during the first break since schools re-opened in September – including the return of Where’s Wally!
Wally, the world’s favourite children’s book character – wearing a red-and-white striped shirt and black-rimmed specs – will be returning to Tullie House. Families will be able to join the search for Wally at Tullie House Museum, Carlisle as part of the Where’s Wally? Spooky Museum Search, organised by Walker Books and Kids in Museums, to celebrate the release of the new book, Where’s Wally? Spooky Spotlight Search.
We had a great time at Tullie House with a friend and her two young sons hunting out Wally the last time an event of this kind was held here – and it is a great way to get kids engaged in what this wonderful museum has to offer. In fact, it was quite a task to entice the boys to leave, and only the offer of a cake and juice in the museum cake managed to persuade them it as time to end their adventures int he museum.
It is great for families to have Wally and the other activities available at Tullie House.
Alison Bowyer, Executive Director of Kids in Museums, said: “We’re thrilled to be working with Walker Books again this year. The last few months have been a challenging time for the heritage sector, so we are pleased to support even more museums to hold a fun and safe activity this October. We hope to encourage families back into heritage sites and help them enjoy all the rich experiences on offer.”
Families will be able to hunt for Wally amongst the collections, as well as spell out a spooky phrase with letters hidden alongside mini Wally standees, and receive a special “I found Wally!” bookmark on completion of the search, as well as the chance to enter the Where’s Wally? and Kids in Museums grand prize draw competition to win an ArtFund Family Membership and a bundle of Where’s Wally? goodies.
Sarah Forster, Schools and Families Coordinator, said: “We are very excited to have Wally back at Tullie House for half term. It is a great way for families to explore the museum and discover things they might not have noticed before. The Big Museum Hunt was so popular last year and we think the Spooky Hunt will be even better – and what perfect timing for Halloween at the end of the week.”
Tullie House is also providing craft sessions every day throughout the week, Monday 26 October – Saturday 31 October. Each session will have an eye on Halloween, with opportunities to make spider webs, bats, paper bag monsters, ghost pom pom poppers, 3D paper pumpkins and witches’ black sock cats. Sessions will be socially distanced and need to be booked in advance. Tickets are available from www.tulliehouse.co.uk/events
