Cake crafted by Cumbrian bakery shortlisted in national awards

The shortlisted finalists for this year’s Baking Industry Awards 2023, (BIA), the baking industry Oscars have been announced each day this week, starting on Tuesday 29thAugust, with Cumbrian cake makers Ginger Bakers, based at Plumgarths, Kendal, discovering that their Vegan Fruit & Nut Cake had been shortlisted in the Free-from Bakery Product of the Year award category. 

Other shortlisted products in the Free-from Product of the Year award are Happy Birthday Cake by Just Love Food Company and Sweet Potato Katsu Curry Little Lattices by Higgidy.

Now the Ginger Bakers team alongside the other shortlisted finalists will all have to wait until the glitzy black-tie awards ceremony, which is being held on Tuesday 7th November at the Royal Lancaster London, to find out who wins across each of the 14 award categories, as the industry celebrates the best people, products and businesses the sector has to offer. 

Other award categories include Bakery Manufacturer of the Year, Bakery Retailer of the Year, New Bakery Product of the Year, the Rising Star Award, and new for this year the Employer of the Year, designed to celebrate those businesses that have done the most to create a positive working environment, and motivated and upskilled their people. 

Commenting on Ginger Bakers category shortlisting owner Lisa Smith said: ‘’It’s a real honour to be shortlisted alongside businesses who dominate the industry in this year’s BIA’s, and it just shows that our hard work & passion really pays off. The annual awards are the biggest event in the baking industry calendar and provide a magnificent stage to recognise the skills and achievements of the whole industry.’’
