NHS announce shortlist for Spotlight Awards 2012:

The nominees for the fourth annual staff Spotlight Awards, of Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, have been announced.

This includes a special award category for members - allowing patients, carers and the public to nominate staff that have made a big difference to their lives.

Below are extracts from the nominations forms for each of the shortlisted nominees for the ‘Here for You’ award:

Mandy Glencross – Young People’s Substance Misuse Worker (DASH), Copeland
“I really don’t know where I’d be without Mandy. She’s been there when I’ve felt the lowest in my life, and has been there to see the best I’ve done in my life. She inspires me a lot as a person to look up to and as a good role model. I’ve even thought about becoming a councillor myself so I can help people the same way that Mandy has helped me.”

Sue Hornby – Mental Health Nurse, Furness
“Sue was my named nurse and I cannot praise her professionalism and consistency of superb care enough. She was a tremendous support to my parents; they are forever grateful to her for easing this very painful time for them. She really listened and this gave me the confidence to move forward from a depression that I had been stuck in for years.”

Michelle Napier – Rehabilitation Assistant, Copeland
“Patients come first to Michelle and she really goes beyond the call of duty to make sure their needs are met. When my Mum was totally against having carers come out to the house, Michelle took the time to talk thought it with her and even came round the first few days to check everything was going ok which gave my Mum peace of mind. She really is a star.”

Carlisle Short Term Intervention Team, Carlisle
“This team helped my mother get used to living in her own flat again following a fall and a spell in nursing home care. They are pleasant, patient and caring, and have been invaluable, providing useful equipment and an enormous amount of encouragement.”

Sylvia Walton, ‘Say It’ Coordinator, Carlisle/Eden
“I had a stroke, was in a wheelchair and not speaking. Everything was bleak. When Sylvia came to our house she gave hope and laughter. She was very encouraging and patient. Always cheerful, helpful and always, always laughter. Laughter was the main thing. Life saver really.”

Staff, colleagues and managers have also nominated exceptional staff members across Cumbria for the Spotlight Awards 2011, which celebrates the hard work and dedication of staff working within Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

The winner of each category will be announced at an awards ceremony at the Rheged Centre in Penrith on March 9th.

Mike Taylor, Chair of Cumbria Partnership, said: “The awards celebrate the success and achievements of all our staff, including those working for partner organisations within the Foundation Trust. All our staff play an important role within the Foundation Trust and this is our chance to say thank you for their hard work and commitment.”
