MP's bid for post office outreach service for Hawkshead

South Lakes MP, Tim Farron, has called on the Post Office to work with him, the parish council and local residents to return post office services to Hawkshead as a matter of urgency.
Residents in Hawkshead have been left shocked after they found out that their local Post Office had closed.
He has been in regular contact with the Post Office and Hawkshead Parish Council after news of the closure broke yesterday. Tim convinced the Post Office to send a senior manager up to the village this morning to talk to local residents and the owners of the shop about a way to move forward. Tim will be talking again to the Post Office on Monday after they have finished their initial investigation of the situation.
He is also working with David Fletcher the chair of the Local Area Partnership to try and find a solution.
Mr. Farron said: “I have been told by local residents that they went to the shop to pick up their morning paper yesterday only to hear that the shop was closing at the end of the day and won’t be open again. Many people in Hawkshead rely on the Post Office for their banking or their pension, and to ask them to travel to Coniston or Ambleside is unfair. As a community we will not take this lying down, and I am determined that a full post office must be returned as soon as possible. In the meantime though I am urging the Post Office to urgently bring a temporary outreach service to plug the gap while we work to ensure a longer term solution.”
