Get it "Write" - Keswick young writers to work with professional cast and director

Are you a budding Ben Johnson? Or an aspiring Shakespeare? Do you love to write but don’t know what to do with your scribblings? Theatre by the Lake is looking for young writers aged 13-25 to join their Young Writers Programme.

This seven week course, starting on Tuesday 31 January, explores the unique journey from page to stage and gives participants the skills needed to produce good quality scripts for performance. The Young Writers will work not only as writers, but also as actors and directors as they explore character, narrative, dialogue and learn how to draft and produce their very own play.

The sessions will focus on Alan Bennett’s The History Boys which is Theatre by the Lake’s 2012 Main House spring production. Freelance Director Louie Ingham (who works at The Dukes, Lancaster) will be running the sessions following her successful Autumn 2011 Young Writers sessions. The sessions will culminate with an opportunity to ‘workshop’ scripts written by the group with members of the professional cast of The History Boys. This is a unique and exciting opportunity for young people to work with both a professional director and a professional cast – the perfect addition to any CV or University application.

The Young Writers Group will meet on Tuesday nights at Theatre by the Lake, Keswick from 7pm - 9pm on the following dates: Tuesday January 31, February 7, 21, 28, March 6, 13 and 20, 2012.

The Young Writers Group is aimed at young people aged between 13 and 25 years who have an interest in writing for performance. No experience is necessary. The course costs £70 and applicants are requested to ensure they can attend on all of the course dates before applying.  To find out more information or to apply, please contact Amy Ferguson on 017687 72282 or email amy.ferguson@theatrebythelake.com
