10,000 more visitors make it bumper year for Lakes attraction

Since the multi-award winning World of Beatrix Potter opened in 1991, three million visitors of all ages and from all over the world have enjoyed the attraction.

And at the end of the celebratory 20th anniversary year 10,000 more visitors have made it the busiest year ever for the Lake District tourist spot.

Chief Executive Andy Poole said: “We have been very fortunate to have bucked the trend in these difficult times with our best ever trading year, helped by a combination of factors including a dedicated team of managers and staff, regular investment in the business, and the application of attention to detail that can make such a huge difference to customer satisfaction.  We also get a lot of feedback from visitors from the UK and all over the world who appreciate what good value for money we continue to provide.  Of course, at the end of the day it is the enduring appeal of Beatrix Potter’s work that sustains the business, and we can only work to ensure that doesn’t diminish anytime soon”.

To continue the success of last year, the attraction is hosting a line-up of exciting events in 2012 including: a series of celebratory Tea Parties to mark Peter Rabbit’s 110th Birthday taking place on 1st April, 15th April, 20th May, 24th June, 11th July, 28 July, 8th August and Wednesday 22nd August.  The popular parties feature afternoon tea, a visit from Peter Rabbit, a special guest reading a Beatrix Potter tale along with entry in to the Attraction.

Other special events include our Great Peter Rabbit Easter Egg Hunt, which just got bigger and better with 110 limited edition hand crafted ceramic eggs hidden in the great outdoors across Cumbria.  Every egg offers the prize of free entry to the Attraction and an anniversary Beatrix Potter story book, and in addition 10 of the eggs come with special prizes in association with some top Lakeland Businesses such as English Lakes Hotel, Beech Hill Hotel, Lindeth Howe Hotel and South Lakeland Parks.  The Egg Hunt starts on Thursday 5 April and the map and clues are launched live on www.hop-skip-jump.com at 10am.  This is a fabulous free event for everyone to enjoy, but Easter Egg hunters need to be quick, because the egg hunt gets more popular every year!

The fun is set to continue throughout the summer as we launch our special Windermere Olympic Relay on 30 June with five other superb family attractions around Lake Windermere.  Lakeland Olympians can form their own family team and take part to win Gold, Silver and Bronze as they complete the challenge and collect a relay stamp at each of these fantastic Attractions: World of Beatrix Potter, the Lake District Visitor Centre at Brockhole, Windermere Lake Cruises, Lakes Aquarium, Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway and Lakeland Motor Museum.
