Police work with Windermere pupils to restore community bench

A police officer in Windermere has been working with local school children to renovate a community bench.Windermere based officer PC Simone Cookson, has been working alongside LB Joinery from Kendal to help the pupils of Lakes School Windermere renovate and erect an old bench in the children’s play area of Queens Park recreation ground in Windermere.

The project began in October 2011 and was completed at the end of January 2012.

PC Cookson said: “The pupils have worked really hard to transform the old bench into a lovely new one for all to enjoy.

“The two young men who have been involved in the project have enjoyed their time working alongside Cumbria Police and have been very pleased with the result.

“The bench has a plaque on which states which partner agencies were involved in making this community project a success. LB Joinery of Kendal kindly donated the wood, Cooper engravers at Staveley donated the plaque and a South Lakeland District Council playground engineer lent a helping hand to bring everything together.

“I’m delighted to see a project which required hard work and team spirit come together so nicely – and all for the benefit of the community. Working alongside young people and local businesses, we have been able to make a difference to local people in Windermere.”
